How I Made ₹2,000 in 7 Days Selling Canva Templates as a Student
How I Made ₹2,000 in 7 Days Selling Canva Templates as a Student
Introduction
Selling digital products online sounded impossible to me at first — especially as a full-time student with no business background, no website, and no design degree.
But then I discovered something simple and powerful:
Canva templates.
With just a free Canva account and some time, I created 3 basic templates — and within one week, I had made ₹2,000 from direct UPI payments and DMs.
This post breaks down:
-
What templates I created
-
How I promoted them
-
How I priced them
-
How you can do it too (step-by-step)
What I Created
I didn’t overthink it. I created templates that I or other students actually need:
1. College Event Poster Pack
-
3 customizable poster templates (for college fests, tech events, and cultural functions)
-
Included free fonts, drag-drop layout
-
Made for use on mobile or laptop
2. Resume Template (Editable)
-
Clean, single-page design
-
Made for internships and freshers
-
Customizable in Canva free version
3. Instagram Story Promotion Pack
-
5 story templates for clubs, events, announcements
Each file was shared as a Canva shareable link, so buyers could edit them instantly after purchase.
Tools I Used (All Free)
-
Canva Free – design the templates
-
Google Drive – store a backup
-
Bitly – shorten the share link
-
Instagram + WhatsApp – for promotion
-
GPay / PhonePe / Paytm – to accept payments
I did not use any website, ads, or paid software.
Pricing Strategy
I priced it low to start gaining trust:
| Product | Price |
|---|---|
| College Poster Pack | ₹59 |
| Resume Template + Cover Letter | ₹49 |
| Instagram Story Pack | ₹39 |
| Bundle (All 3) | ₹99 only |
I also gave discounts like ₹10 off for referrals or reposting on story.
Important: I accepted only UPI and DMs (no online store required).
Promotion Strategy (No Ads)
1. Instagram
-
Posted 2 reels showing template previews
-
Shared story highlights: before/after designs, user reviews
-
CTA: “DM ‘TEMPLATE’ to buy now”
2. WhatsApp
-
Shared posters in student groups
-
Reached out to fest organizers & juniors
-
Used this simple message:
“Need a poster for your event? I made ready-made templates in Canva. ₹59 only, editable on mobile.”
3. Reposting and Reviews
-
Asked first 5 buyers to share reviews or screenshots
-
Reposted their stories as social proof
Delivery Method
Once someone paid via UPI:
-
I sent them a Google Drive link with access to all templates
-
Also gave Canva links individually for each file
-
Sent a short 1-minute video on “how to use Canva template”
No website, no password, no login needed.
Exact Results (In 7 Days)
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Templates Sold | 34 copies |
| Bundle Sales | 11 out of 34 |
| Total Revenue | ₹2,027 |
| UPI Platform Used | GPay + Paytm |
| Delivery Method | Canva link via DM |
| Refunds or Complaints | 0 |
What Worked
-
Showing the product in use (video previews)
-
Making it for students, not businesses
-
Low price = easy trust and impulse buys
-
Using familiar tools (Canva + WhatsApp + UPI)
What I'll Do Better Next Time
-
Create a mini PDF catalog with previews
-
Use Gumroad or Instamojo for instant download
-
Add 1-click payment links instead of manual UPI
-
Offer upsells like “10 Poster Pack” for clubs
Want to Try This Yourself?
You don’t need to be a pro designer. Here’s how to start:
-
Open Canva (Free)
-
Make a useful template (resume, menu, poster, story design)
-
Use your college’s common needs as inspiration
-
Export shareable links
-
Promote via Reels, stories, class groups
-
Collect payments via UPI or link
-
Deliver via Google Drive or direct links
Tip: One good design can sell 10, 20, even 50+ times.
Final Thoughts
This wasn’t magic. Just:
-
A simple product
-
Created using free tools
-
Shared in places where students actually look
In 7 days, I made ₹2,000+ — that’s more than many internships offer in a month.
If you're a student with a phone, an idea, and 1–2 hours per day, you can do this too.
